How we are governed
Our governance structure is comprised of the Foundation Board, the Technical Advisory Committee and the Secretariat.
Foundation Board
The Board elects a Director for managing all operational activities of the Gold Standard Foundation and provides strategic guidance and support to the Gold Standard secretariat. It also acts as a focal point for requests from NGO supporters related to the Gold Standard strategy and scope and as the ultimate decision-maker in the event that a project must be denied Gold Standard certification. The Board is self-constitutent. A number of its members are recruited from NGOs that support the Gold Standard.

Technical Advisory Committee
The Gold Standard's independent Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is made up of leading authorities on emission reduction projects. It is self-constituent, independent of the Secretariat, and its members work in a personal capacity. The TAC meets regularly, and its main decisions are published in the Gold Standard Newsletter. Its functions are:
- To oversee the registration of Gold Standard projects and the issuance of credits to ensure the credibility of the certification process in order to maintain the premium quality of the label;
- To update and revise Gold Standard rules in response to changes in the market;
- To assess and approve revsions in existing methodologies or new methodologies for the GS-VER stream;
- To provide other technical support to the Foundation Board and the Gold Standard management as required.

Foundation Staff
The Foundation maintains a small Geneva-based secretariat. In addition, out-posted staff and local experts support Gold Standard activities around the world.
