The Gold Standard - NGO Supporters - www.cdmgoldstandard.org

NGO Supporters

A core group of non-governmental organizations created the Gold Standard as a benchmark for quality in carbon markets. In 2003 they launched a method for registering carbon offset projects that generated real emissions reductions, contributed to sustainable development and provided local benefits, and developed standards for certifying the carbon credits of these projects. Soon thereafter, these NGOs also established the Gold Standard Foundation to implement a certification scheme for carbon credits in both compliance and voluntary offset markets, based on the method.

Since 2003 over 60 non-governmental organizations have become Gold Standard supporters by endorsing the method and agreeing to the Foundation’s Terms and Conditions. Endorsement is formalised by signing the Gold Standard Supporter Form and is for the Gold Standard method only. All supporters remain free to criticise individual projects during the public review processes and to draw the attention of the secretariat to any concerns they may have about performance of a particular project during implementation.

Highlighted listings are provided for NGO Supporters that are also Core or Main Activity Sponsors or Majority Portfolio Pledgers. Simple listings are provided for other NGO Supporters, giving name and contact information for all, along with additional information for those that have also engaged with the Gold Standard in other ways.
