They may offset past as well as current travel.

The non-profit foundation myclimate is an international initiative with Swiss roots. It offsets emissions for individuals, companies and organisations by investing in well-chosen projects in developing and emerging countries, as well as in Europe. The funding makes it possible to use renewable energies and energy efficient technologies instead of inefficient fossil fuel technology. REEEP is a global partnership that structures policy initiatives for clean energy markets and facilitates financing for sustainable energy projects. It operates a Voluntary Carbon Offsetting scheme through which governments and private buyers can outsource the purchase of CDM CERs or Gold Standard VERs to REEEP. It has been a strong NGO supporter of the Gold Standard Foundation, and provides important core funding for its work.
